Court Rules Bakeries Cannot Refuse Wedding Cakes to Same-Sex Couples

Cake for everybody.
Cake for everybody.

Last year, the owner of Denver’s Masterpiece Cakeshop refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple, saying the union was an affront to his religious beliefs, and now a administrative law judge has ruled that rejection as discriminatory. “At first blush, it may seem reasonable that a private business should be able to refuse service to anyone it chooses,” part of the thirteen-page decision states. “This view, however, fails to take into account the cost to society and the hurt caused to persons who are denied service simply because of who they are.” [WT, Related]
