Three months after the devastation brought on by Hurricane Sandy, ambitious Dumbo restaurant Governor announced it would abandon recovery efforts and close for good; chef Brad McDonald left New York, while partners Tamer Hamawi, Emelie Kihlstrom, and Elise Rosenberg continued to focus on Gran Electrica and Colonie, their other establishments. (Governor later reopened with new owners as Atrium.) McDonald settled in London, where first he was cooking Mexican food at Casa Negra, and now it’s been announced he’ll take over the kitchen at the Lockhart, where next month he’ll debut a “deep south” menu of dishes like lacquered beef with peanut miso, and gumbo with smoked mallard duck.
