Bowery Boogie notes that Danny Bowien’s Mission Chinese Food has been forcibly closed by the health department for the second time since the beginning of October for critical violations. Although the agency has not yet posted the details of yesterday’s inspection online and the chef-owner does not list specific violations, Bowien explains to Eater that despite addressing several minor structural and vermin-infestation problems last month, the restaurant has recently been “inundated with a pest problem,” which has taken a unforeseen toll on day-to-day operations. “There’s a big condominium going up there, behind the restaurant, and they started digging,” Bowien writes, adding that the space had extant code violations when the owners signed the lease, and that Mission Chinese Food will not reopen until it can “rebuild.” [Bowery Boogie, Eater NY, Earlier, Related]
