A September fire at Gabila’s Knishes’ plant in Copiague, Long Island, has led to a painful, six-week-long shortage of “the Original Coney Island Square Knish.” The round, baked versions are available, but New Yorkers want the classic square, fried variety, of course. Katz’s Deli chef Kenny Kohn says he’s sick of explaining the shortage to customers (“Get over it! Get a life! It’s just a knish”), so it’s a good thing that Gabila’s is set to resume production by the start of Thanksgivingukkah. [Earlier, AP]
