Questlove’s Hybird Closes in Chelsea Market

The fried chicken, biscuits, and cupcakes stand certainly had its fans.

Philadelphia-based restaurateur Stephen Starr and Questlove collaborated to open Hybird, a tiny shop with outsized fried-chicken-drumstick dreams, back in May. Though some balked at prices ($4 per piece) and wacky side-order choices (biscuits and ... truffle-deviled-egg dumplings?), the place had its fans, and the ultra-crunchy main event ended up on the Underground Gourmet's 2013 Cheap Eats list. There was even talk of franchises. But all of that seems to be hushed now: Eater NY reports that Hybird has gone under, and the Chelsea Market space is now just an empty stall with papered-over menu boards.
