Danny Meyer’s Blue Smoke Team to Open Porchlight in West Chelsea

Union Square Hospitality Group announced it will add another establishment to its restaurant portfolio that will open by this time next fall, called Porchlight, which reps describe as a cocktails- and microbrew-heavy offshoot of Blue Smoke. Mark Maynard-Parisi, the barbecue restaurant's co-founder and original general manager, will be in charge of the project, which will take up 4,000 square feet on the ground floor of the 1891 Waterfront New York Building at the corner of 28th St. and Eleventh Ave. There, the Blue Smoke team will be writing a menu of "Southern-inspired bar food" to complement the cold drinks. In addition to Manhattan's two full-fledged outposts of the barbecue restaurant, Meyer recently signed a deal with Delta Airlines that will bring barbecue onboard select cross-Atlantic flights for the first time, beginning in February of next year.
