Grub hears that the West Village shop is expanding to the Lower East Side, with a second location opening at 175 Orchard Street on October 24. Unlike its Parisian-themed sister spot, this 2,000-square-foot, 70-seat Whynot outpost will showcase the work of up-and-coming artists. The setup sounds great: The coffee console is located in the middle of the room — with the gallery surrounding the island — and artists will each have a month to showcase their work. First up is local painter Jeremy Penn. And fortunately Whynot isn't changing everything: You can expect the same excellent Blue Bottle coffee and pastries from Mille-feuille.
