Watch the Trailer for the Tom’s Restaurant Documentary

The Westway in Hell’s Kitchen may have been the real-life greasy spoon where Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David met up to plot out the show that became Seinfeld, but the instantly recognizable restaurant at the corner of West 112th Street and Broadway is home to thousands of fascinating stories. At least that’s what filmmaker Gian Franco Morini argues in the forthcoming documentary about the place. Among the things we learn: Barack Obama was once a regular, Cornel West thinks Tom’s customers are a perfect cross-section of humanity, and Josh Gondelman and Jack Moore, creators of @ModernSeinfeld, understand how the old greasy spoon fits into the larger, post-show Jerry Seinfeld cosmology of funniness. Check it out, straight ahead.
