Watch Ellen DeGeneres Give $10K to a Generous Ruby Tuesday Server

A server at a Ruby Tuesday in Concord, New Hampshire, picked up the check for two furloughed National Guard soldiers last week after she overheard them trying to pick out an inexpensive menu item at lunch. Instead of handing them the check, Sarah Hoidahl paid the $27.75 herself and placed a heartwarming note on the table: “Thanks to the government shutdown the people like you that protect this country are not getting paid, however I still am. Lunch is on me thank you for serving ladies! Have a good day!” As all unexpected things restaurant receipt related are wont to do these days, the note went viral, one thing led to another, and soon enough, Hoidahl found herself on Ellen, you know, sitting with Ellen.
