The Champagne of Champagnes

These days it seems as though any Champagne is only as good as the special-edition, breathlessly hyped container it comes in. So while Dom Perignon can claim Jeff Koons’s dog, and Cristal’s got a gold jeroboam, Veuve Clicquot is taking another route entirely with this cocoonlike thing, which is made of recycled paper and potato starch. Unlike its decadent, superfluous counterparts, the Cédric Ragot–designed holder is actually good for something: The case keeps bottles chilled for up to two hours. The Champagne and cover will be available in stores for $58 next month. It’s no shiny balloon dog, but hey, it’s recyclable! [NYDN]
