Picnic Opens in the East Village; Project by Project’s Benefit

• Project by Project is hosting its fifteenth annual tasting benefit, Plate by Plate, on Friday, October 4, at 82Mercer to raise funds for the Film News Now Foundation. Bell Book & Candle, Blue Smoke, Jin Ramen, and many other restaurants will participate, and there will be a silent auction. Tickets are $150 to $225. [Grub Street]

Picnic is open in the East Village, serving dishes like mussels with hard cider and apricot nectar, and a pulled-pork sandwich with root-beer barbecue. Picnic is open seven days a week for dinner and late-night dining. [Grub Street]

• On Saturday, September 28, at Pier 57, StarChefs will host its first annual SMOKE@ICC barbecue competition. For $65 to $85, you can enjoy live music and beer while tasting brisket from ten competing teams from across the county and deciding who is the “best in show.” [Grub Street]
