Deadline reports that Jason Segel will star in an upcoming “Canadian maple syrup heist comedy” based on a real-life caper involving the sweet stuff — thousands of barrels, possibly worth $30 million — that disappeared from a strategic maple syrup reserve facility in Quebec. Family Guy writer and producer Chris Sheridan is reported to be basing the story on journalist Anne Sutherland’s reports on the labyrinthian crimes, which involved tankers and siphons and scheming syrup entrepreneurs from the great state of Vermont. Seth Gordon will direct Segel in an as-yet-unidentified role, but one that’s nonetheless sure to be the actor’s sappiest to date. [Deadline, Earlier]
