Beloved Durham-based roaster Counter Culture is opening an outpost on Broome Street that’s entirely dedicated to coffee education. This is not a coffee shop; it’s a 3,600-square-foot loftlike training center that will offer cuppings, brewing workshops, and serve as a space for guest chefs to host food events (there’s even a competition training room). It’s seriously next-level, with a high-tech under-the-counter Modbar brewing system, a full-service tech lab, and, downstairs, a vermiculture station where worms convert coffee grounds into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Classes are available to both professional baristas and home brewers — and you can check out the schedule here. The official opening date is October 1, but tomorrow and Saturday Counter Culture is hosting a free open house. Take a look at the impressive space, straight ahead.
