After thee years in business, the Lower East Side tiki bar will shutter at the end of July because a landlord has “chosen not to renew” Richard Boccato’s lease. But Boccato doesn’t seem too bummed about it: Even though CB3 killed his plan to open up a new bar, Asphalt Jungle, on Avenue B, he’s confident he can bring it to Brooklyn or Queens. “We’d like to move toward a more classic, mid-20th-century representation of a tiki bar,” he told Diner’s Journal. Since Asphalt’s inspired by the 1950 film noir of the same name, expect an homage to Marilyn Monroe, bamboo shoots, and frozen daiquiris. [Earlier, Diner’s Journal/NYT]
