La Esquina’s team exclusively tells Grub that Erik Osol, who has worked as the chef de cuisine at ilili for five years, is the Mexican restaurant’s new executive chef. Osol replaces Akhtar Nawab, who’s heading to Abe & Arthur’s meatpacking outpost. “We had been enormous fans of Erik’s wildly impressive work at ilili and are now thrilled to have his refined and lively palate, his creativity combined with his talent for simplicity, applied to our traditional Mexican cuisine,” says co-owner Derek Sanders. Osol will oversee the food at La Esquina’s Soho and Williamsburg locations, as well as the development of La Esquina Food Products (which are sold at Dean & DeLuca). Congrats, chef!
