John Veliotis, the proprietor of South Side hot dog stand Johnny O’s, has seen it all since he was a kid running a fleet of hot dog pushcarts in the shadow of the old Comiskey Park. In the second (and admittedly belated) entry in our series Real Chicago, he tells you what it’s really like in Bridgeport and the South Side, while his crew shows us the secrets of two classic South Side sandwiches: the breaded steak sandwich and the mysterious Mother-in-Law. Watch our 10-minute video below, and learn the kind of history they don’t teach you in books, kid.
