Casino reps on hand at Friday’s kick-off to Taste of Revel were all too happy to tick off the many tweaks the resort and casino has in the works for its second summer season coming up. Corks popped and bubbly flowed at the ribbon cutting for Pearl Lounge, a new private respite on the casino floor for high-rollers that flaunts its own collection of slot machines, bar, restrooms and ATMs. And much was said about coming upgrades, like designated smoking areas, Relish, a new moderately priced restaurant open 24 hours a day, and the opening of HQ Beach Club. Still what everyone wanted to know was, what was going on behind the black curtains draping what was the Planxa Bar next to Jose Garces’ Amada.

As mentioned here before, Garces has shut down the grab-and-go tapas spot, and is replacing it with a dim sum and noodle bar concept. When Grub caught up with the Iron Chef, he told us that work was underway, and the 30 to 35 seater would absolutely be ready to open by Memorial Day weekend. The name, and the design scheme remain a mystery, but Garces told us he and his menu development team have tapped longtime friend Sally Song from Center City’s cult favorite Dim Sum Garden to help out with the menu. Needless to say, Dim Sum Garden’s heavenly soup dumplings will find their way to the menu. In addition to sharing those details, Garces told us his recently rebranded Distrito taco truck will be spending most of the summer in Atlantic City stationed between Revel Beach and the hotel to dish up tacos and nachos surfiside daily, and into the late night hours on the weekends.
