Mexican Official Fired After Daughter’s Restaurant Tantrum

When the daughter of the head of Mexico’s consumer protection agency, Andrea Benitez Gonzalez, couldn’t snag a coveted table at Maximo Bistro, she flipped out and had official inspectors close the restaurant. Even though her father, Humberto Benitez Treviño, wasn’t involved in the incident, President Enrique Peña Nieto decided to fire him because it “tarnished the image and prestige” of the agency and fueled criticism of an entitlement culture in Mexican politics. Moral of the story: Unless you’re Veruca Salt, temper tantrums get you nowhere. Well, they do get you fleeting, embarrassing Internet fame. Somebody get this girl her own reality show.
