Le Pigeon’s Gabriel Rucker Cooking At Bar Marmont, May 30 and 31

Carolynn Spence’s love affair with the French, on full display at Le Fooding’s recent L.A. soiree, continues this month, as Gabriel Rucker, the two-time James Beard-winning chef from Portland’s Le Pigeon and Little Bird, is coming to Chateau Marmont’s Bar Marmont on May 30 and 31. Though Rucker is a Napa native, he made his bones (and Food & Wine’s 2007 “Best New Chef” list) in part through cut-intensive takes on classic Gallic recipes (think beef cheek Bourguignon and pork belly and duck cassoulet). His appearance later this month officially kicks off an ongoing series in which Spence will cook alongside other visiting chefs from across the country that she’ll help curate.

For the debut dinner, the duo will prepare four starters and four main dishes from Rucker’s repertoire, allowing guests to pick appetizers and entrees for a $75 three-course menu that includes a dessert paired with grappa . Both chefs will source ingredients together on trips to the local markets and from purveyors like Lindy & Grundy and Beverly Hills Cheese Shop, with the aim of bringing L.A. a taste of a visiting restaurant using our city’s own respected resources.
