While the hype continues building for the kick off of Morgan’s Pier’s second season later this week, and former Stateside wunderkind George Sabatino manning the pots and pans there, a just announced related project happening out on South Broad Street is about to generate just as much buzz. Avram Hornik and his 4 Corners Management are teaming with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, University of the Arts and Groundswell Design Group, who did the outdoors at Talula’s Garden and the Pier, to create the appropriately titled Pop Up Garden in the vacant lot across form the Kimmel Center at 313 South Broad Street.

The drab scene there is being transformed into a lush and beautiful urban oasis with locust trees, various plantings, vintage metal lawn furniture, and sculptural walls constructed from repurposed shipping pallets. When opened on or after May 16, Hornik’s 4 Corners Management will have several types of craft beer, sangria and food from Sabatino available they they will serve from two reclaimed shipping containers. The garden will be open to visitors Monday through Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m.; 1 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturday; and 1 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
