Rooftop-garden company Gotham Greens will operate the 20,000-square-foot greenhouse atop the Whole Foods in Gowanus, which is rising rapidly on its construction site at Third Avenue and Third Street. Using an array of solar panels and a lot of recycled rainwater, the hyper-local farm will not only produce lettuce, herbs, and other leafy greens for the produce aisle directly underneath it, it’ll also grow kale and such for other Whole Foods locations throughout the city. The best part? The farm will operate year-round once the grocery store opens this fall. [Whole Foods via Candace Choi/Twitter, Earlier, Related]
