Say So Long to Percy Street BBQ’s Comcast Center Location

Whoa! What’s this? Percy Street BBQ shut down its sandwich shop in the Market & Shops at the Comcast Center? That’s what the Insider’s reporting this morning. Apparently, Michael Solomonov, Steven Cook and Erin O’Shea served the last barbecued meat sandwiches from that hitch last Friday, and did so free of charge for the very last customers. Bummer for sure, but now what? There’s no reason given for the abrupt shutdown. We reached out to Solo and company, but have yet to get a response.

The shop just opened in November 2011, and appeared to be enjoying success ever since. According to Philly.com-menters, who rarely rise above race-baiting and nonsensical shit-talk to ever be taken seriously, slumping sales is the reason.

Perhaps Solo + Cook are making way for the third Federal Donuts location we’ve been hearing is supposedly in the works. Though earlier iterations of that rumor have the doughnuts and fried chicken shop going in on, or near Drexel’s campus, retrofitting it into the space at the Comcast Center doesn’t seem so far off. Still, some are taking that scuttlebutt a step further, saying the University City expansion will house Percy Street and FedNuts satellites under the same roof.
