Here’s some good news to brighten up this otherwise dreary, rainy day: Lorenzo & Sons Pizza reopened earlier today, just a few weeks shy of one year since being destroyed by fire. And it will most likely be open again tomorrow, and the next as owner Giuseppe Pulizzi gets the South Street pizza-by-the-slice joint ready for its big Grand Re-Opening fest on Friday. After that, it will be back to business as usual, with hours running noon to 3 a.m. on weekdays, and noon to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s festivities will feature a live broadcast from WMMR’s Preston & Steve Show, lots of giveaways, pizza of course, and 50 percent of the day’s proceeds going to Philabundance.

The newly renovated pizza joint features a new glass facade to replace the old wooden one that suffered damage in last year’s fire. Windows on the upper floors are going to get wrapped with a mural depicting the shop’s namesake holding a pizza. Also new are air conditioning and additional pizza ovens. The biggest foreseeable change is, pies and slices will have toppings, but only on Tuesdays.
