Lower East Side restaurateurs Ben Towill and Phil Winser will open an as-yet-unnamed third restaurant at 133 East 65th Street, in the space that formerly housed 212 Restaurant and Bar. The Upper East Side restaurant closed after a fire broke out in its kitchen on Super Bowl Sunday in 2010. "We’ve just gotten the space and we love the building,” says Towill, of the tiny brownstone. "The menu will be slightly different from what we do downtown, but we are bound by the same food philosophy that we are extremely passionate about — seasonal local produce used in elevated home cooking.”
So, what would come next in the sequence of restaurant names that started with the Fat Radish and continued with the Leadbelly? Towill tells Grub Street the new restaurant does not yet have one. At the same time, the restaurant’s SLA application indicates its partners have incorporated as Brecqhou LLC, which seems to be a nod to the Channel Island of the same name and is seemingly well-suited for Towill’s self-professed style of “seasonal British” food. No matter what, expect the new spot to open after the summer sun sets. "We’d love to be open tomorrow," says Towill, "but we hope to open in the fall."
