Increasingly, we’re seeing the worlds of visual art and food further converge, be it through LACMA’s recently introduced, film-influenced dinner menus or The Oinkster’s embrace of local record labels and conceptual provocateurs in its new “Hardly Starving Artists” burger series. On May 4, Estevan Oriol, the SA Studios art director and legendary photographer behind such iconic L.A. dispatches as this and this, will be lending his creativity to Pizzanista in Downtown. From noon to 5:00 P.M., the restaurant will sell a limited edition pizza created with Oriol’s input and served in a box featuring his famous “LA Hands” piece. Oriol, Thee Mike B, and DJ Skee will also be selecting tunes for the day, while a low-rider display will help honor L.A.’s street heritage as the artist hangs out to sign prints and t-shirts.
