See How Much Coconuts Figure Into Sri Lankan Life and Cuisine


Whether or not you’ve been to the new 1601 Bar & Kitchen, newly open at Howard and 12th, you should understand just how important coconuts are to the Sri Lankan people. Chef Brian Fernando has incorporated traditional Sri Lankan foods into his menu, like the coconut-milk, rice four and yeast crepe with an egg on top known as a hopper, served with a coconut and dried fish condiment.
