At this week’s CB3 meeting, Dutch Kills and PKNY partner Richard Boccato received bad news about his planned tiki bar, Asphalt Jungle, in the former Mercadito Cantina space on Avenue B. Neighbors think that there are already too many bars on the block, and the board refused to grant him a liquor license. Despite Boccato’s feisty behavior at the meeting, it looks like he’s surrendering: DNAinfo reports that he’s not going to continue to pursue opening Asphalt Jungle in the East Village. He’s “disappointed with the neighborhood right now,” but he has “no doubt that we’ll get it in somewhere.” [Earlier, Earlier, DNAinfo]
