Adventurous Thai Spot Sticky Rice To Open Second Location in Bucktown

Thai restaurants are a dime a dozen in this town, but there is a handful that stand above the pack for more authentic offerings, and high among them is Sticky Rice near Western and Montrose. The first Thai restaurant to explicitly specialize in Isaan food, from the northern part of Thailand rather than near Bangkok, Sticky Rice successfully built an audience for strongly funky dishes including some with rather surprising ingredients— its 100-item menu surely has more insect dishes than any other restaurant in Chicago, or possibly all others put together. (See this report by local food maven Cathy Lambrecht.)

Good news for those who live just outside of Sticky Rice’s delivery to the south— a second location, called Sticky Rice Chiang Mai (for the main city in the north), is opening in a strip mall location in Bucktown at 1746 N, Western. When will you be able to get your khanom pang jii from the new location? Around the 4th of July, they hope; in the meantime whet your appetite with the many posts about the menu’s more unusual offerings from the mid-2000s at LTHForum. [DNAInfo]
