Avenue C’s Aussie-esque Sunburnt Cow, which struggled to reopen after Hurricane Sandy took out its gas and electrical infrastructure, barely had a chance to make up for many months of lost business by the time it was inspected and forcibly closed by the Health Department on Friday, following an inspection that returned 56 violation points for issues like evidence of vermin and lack of toilet paper in the bathrooms, DNAinfo reports. Owner Heathe St. Clair tells the site the majority of critical violations were accrued in the restaurant’s basement. “We made it clear to them that we didn’t use the basement,” he says, but the site reports the area is used to “store beer and soda,” which of course still counts.
