At separate Community Board meetings, citizens spoke out against Bagel Express on Second Avenue, and also a branch of the Meatball Shop that’s scheduled to open at 1462 Second Avenue on the UES. At the Second Avenue Subway task force meeting, neighbors bemoaned a plague of hungry rats on the streets, reportedly a problem exacerbated by ongoing construction, DNAinfo reports. Rats have been feasting on discarded bagels, it turns out. “They’re now asking for cream cheese,” said a CB8 member. Meanwhile, Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow were seeking full-liquor with a 4 a.m. closing at their newest shop, but encountered some stiff resistance. “This is not a classy restaurant,” a neighbor complained. “We are a restaurant in the public eye,” Chernow countered, and the shop was granted permission to serve until 2 a.m. [DNAinfo, DNAinfo]
