UPDATE: Bastianich’s Wednesday appearance at Shutter’s has unfortunately been canceled. Lidia Bastianich, New York’s influential mistress of Friulian cooking, is in town this week to promote two new tomes, Lidia’s Favorite Recipes, and a child-friendly vampire romance novel book called Lidia’s Family Kitchen: Nonna’s Birthday Surprise. She’ll be at Mozza tomorrow night to oversee a book-signing and four-course dinner, but chances are, you probably need to move both heaven and earth to get a seat to the $175 affair. Fortunately, Bastianich is also preparing a less exclusive feast for families at Coast at Shutters on the Beach this Wednesday night. What will be served there?
Two seatings, both really early, are being offered to enjoy a choice of several different options in a three-course meal, with one at 4:00 P.M. and the other at 6:00 P.M. Not only will Bastianich (who sat down with Grub Street during a trip to the West Coast in 2011) be offering dishes like her steamed mussels Triestina, but she’ll also feature a kid’s menu with lil’ people pleasers like mini pizzas and hazlenut gelato.
