As promised, Fairway Market in Red Hook reopened this morning, with appearances from Mayor Bloomberg and even Miss America. The grocery store, which has been closed since Hurricane Sandy, is widely seen as a commercial linchpin in the waterfront neighborhood, and to help expedite recovery of its neighbors, Fairway has announced it will match donations to Restore Red Hook up to $20,000. Today also marks the reopening of the Red Hook Lobster Pound, which has bounced back after renovations with a lot of lobster and a new menu board. Elsewhere, Kevin’s has reopened on Van Brunt Street, and the Red Hook Winery, which was also devastated during the storm, reopens today for tours and tastings on Pier 41. [Earlier, Earlier]
