Charles Phan’s new New Orleans-themed bar, Hard Water, debuts next week on Pier 3, next door to La Mar — our earlier report of a debut this weekend seems to be premature, however don’t be surprised if you find it softly open before the official March 14 public debut. As mentioned before, there will be a whiskey-focused cocktail list of Big Easy-inspired drinks by bar star Erik Adkins, and as you can see from our sneak preview slideshow, it’s a pretty cozy space with no tables, an oyster bar, and some barstools both around and near the bar. Also, there’s a lot of whiskey. Shelves and shelves of the stuff, backlit like prized pieces of art.
See the brief food menu here, which is similar, but not quite the same, as the newly opened South at SFJAZZ, Charles Phan’s other new project, which debuted last night. Menu items top out at $22 for fried chicken with pepper jelly, and there’s a $20 seafood gumbo, and cornmeal crusted fried alligator (also served at South) as a starter.
