Remember last summer when we broke the news that the Blue Macaw (2565 Mission, the space that was also previously 12 Galaxies) was set to become something called Balançoire? Well, the club/restaurant is now open, serving French-Creole food, and they’re having a couple of parties this week. The name, by the way, means “swing” in French, making this the second restaurant to open this year named with a foreign word for a playground item, after Ssisso in Japantown. Food-wise, it looks like it’s just snacks and weekend brunch for now.
Tonight they’re hosting a cocktail benefit for the LGBT Center from 6 to 10 p.m. It’s the first of what will be monthly benefit events, supporting local causes, and this one will feature drag performances and DJs China and Miss Jackson.
Friday there’s a party with MODOCrecords, featuring hip-hop, fusion, and experimental tunes. And on Sunday will be Clam Jam, which is a monthly lesbian underwear dance party.
