It’s raining mud, Hallelujah! Better coffee businesses keep booming across the Southland, most recently spurred by the sprouting up of Cafeina Galeria, the spread of G&E; to Larchmont and Cafecito Organico just about everywhere, the importation of Seattle’s Caffe Vita to Silver Lake, and with the news that Portland’s Stumptown is setting up a roastery and cafe in Downtown. Today we learn that Tierra Mia Coffee, the innovators of horchata latte and mocha Mexicano with five links through East L.A. and Downtown, is setting up its sixth shop in Echo Park.
Tierra Mia, which roasts its own, will be taking over the former site of Downbeat Cafe and Echo Lake Coffee at Sunset and Alvarado, with plans to bring E.P. its Cubanos con leche “very soon.” Even if two previous coffee stops failed at the same address, we’re quick to envy Echo Parque this new and improved acquisition.
In more news for ambitious, discriminating coffee chains, Demitasse, which has began brewing in 2011 in Little Tokyo, is taking over space on the same block as Michael McCarty’s newly refreshed farm-to-table original.
Demitasse recently taped Trystero’s Greg Thomas to help roast its own beans, upping the odds for a great cup of coffee in Santa Monica and adding even more fire for hand-made, custom, meticulously sourced food and drink to this stretch of Third Street. Eater projects an April opening at this point.
