While the world’s brasseries are all watching the just-opened Balthazar in London, Reuters scribe Felix Salmon dials in his attention on the Soho original. Lining up old and new menus, Salmon pits the prices of the daily specials from 2001 against those running currently, and after number-crunching and some crowdsourcing, he realizes that while the prices for six days’ worth of the Frenchified meals increased only by 7 percent between 2001 and 2006, they went up a staggering 63 percent between 2006 and 2013.
