Remember the pastor who wrote, “I give God 10 percent, why do you get 18?” on a receipt and left no tip at Applebee’s? She’s unintentionally inspiring acts of actual goodwill. A server (at an unidentified restaurant) posted on Reddit that a customer wrote, “We don’t give the imaginary man in the sky shit! So enjoy!” and left a 20 percent tip. Nice. People are still pretty pissed about Appleebee’s decision to fire Chelsea Welch, the waitress who posted the pastor’s receipt online, but they’re taking out their anger by overtipping random servers.
Mr. Michael T. Zybura, a self-proclaimed former Applebee’s customer and part-time pizza-delivery driver, wrote a long letter to the company, criticizing its decision to fire Welch. Zybura’s dropping bills left and right to make up for one wronged waitress. He explains:
“I have come to your Easy Brunswick/Milltown restaurant NOT to order anything … but to simply use the restroom, get my complimentary water with lemon and just LEAVE but not without generously tipping your server for doing nothing more than bringing me menus and water.
Furthermore I promised the server that should this letter appear online and go viral, that I’ll be returning to the store and DOUBLING his/her tip. And since he/she has my full permission and consent to post this letter online with MY NAME and signature fully visible, there isn’t ANYTHING that you can do about it.”
Let’s continue this string of random acts of kindness — as Zybura states in his note, servers work damn hard. And when they aren’t paid minimum wage, they depend on decent tips. So whether it’s through a stern letter or a short, sweet message on a receipt, keep preaching.
i got this from a customer at my restaurant after a conversation about the girl that got fired for posting a receipt that said “i only give god 10%, why should i give you 18%?” thanks for restoring my faith in humanity! :) [Reddit]
