Allow us to favor you with doings of the restaurant trade from all over our fair city. Firstly, Tavernita launches its Tippling Nights wine and spirits dinner series tonight by hosting its collaborators the Tippling Bros., Paul Tanguay and Tad Carducci, for a sherry-inspired Spanish dinner. It’s at 6:30, and is $55; see the menu here, and watch for each month through the rest of the year.
• Red Door will host a chili cookoff Monday night to benefit Slagel Family Farm’s Chicken Freedom Project, which we wrote about here. Some serious badass talent will be making chili including John Manion (La Sirena Clandestina), Mark Steuer (Carriage House), Matt Troost (Three Aces) and his near double Rob Levitt (Butcher & Larder) and the lovely Allie Levitt; Art and the lovely Chelsea Jackson of Pleasant House Bakery; Eric Mansavage of Farmhouse and Enoch Simpson of Endgrain, with Audarshia Townsend as special guest judge. It’s $25 to get in, which includes one cocktail; go here for tickets.
• Bub City announces that it now offers catering and carry out, just in time for championship sporting events of note, and that it encourages those with a musical bent to participate in its “Country Karaoke” fun on Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., because nothing prepares the throat for singing like a mess o’ spareribs.
• Dollop, the new Streeterville coffee shop which was set to open last week until it had a fire did indeed open at 6 a.m. this morning. (That makes two places in a row that survived fires in this post.)
