Jacques Torres Fulfills His Willy Wonka Fantasy

Jaques Torres is expanding his dessert empire by opening a massive chocolate factory in the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park. The new space will include a 70-foot tunnel, a chocolate powder room, an ice-cream room, and a five-ton chocolate melter. Torres isn’t new to Brooklyn — he opened in Dumbo in 2000 — but this will solidify Brooklyn as one of the most important chocolate-manufacturing regions in the world (Li-Lac, Tumbador, and Mast Brothers are all there, too). Let’s hope that Torres gives factory tours. [NYDN]
