Sunflower to Expand to Mariachi’s Space With New Burmese Restaurant

The long dark Mariachi's.
The long dark Mariachi’s.

Popular Mission Vietnamese spot Sunflower is expanding and taking over the next-door, long shuttered, Mariachi’s space (508 Valencia) in order to open a Burmese restaurant, as Uptown Almanac is reporting. A tipster says that the Sunflower team is bringing in a chef from Myanmar and planning to open “in a month or two” on this restaurant-packed block. We might put that ETA at three or four months, the ways these things tend to go, but we’ll see. (Sunflower, as you may know, also has a location in the Potrero.) This is particularly intriguing since Burma Superstar is still set, as far as we know, to open a new location at Valencia and Duboce, just a few blocks away, though that seems delayed. Two years ago we caught word that local Japanese mini-chain Grandeho’s Kamekyo was going to take the Mariachi’s space, but that deal clearly fell through, and it has remained vacant since shortly thereafter. Stay tuned for more details. [Uptown Almanac]
