Hill Country Chicken, the Flatiron offshoot of nearby Hill Country Barbecue, was shut down for a week due to Sandy. But now they’re back: “Any restaurants downtown that are still without power or closed — if you are looking to temporarily place your employees somewhere, Hill Country Chicken would like to hire them!” writes Dina Millan, the restaurant group’s executive VP of human resources, on Facebook.
“We are happy to provide temporary work for any counter servers, bussers, prep cooks and delivery drivers and operators.” Millan says that she wants to lend a helping hand to her competitors left in the dark. “We wanted to help and we needed help,” she explains. “We have ads out looking for cooks and delivery drivers so it just made sense.” Displaced workers lucky enough to land a gig can look forward to a typical pay rate for “as long as… needed,” Millan says. But what if 50 people respond seeking temporary employment? As Millan puts it, “What a great problem to have.”
