Grand Lake Kitchen, From a Former Park Tavern Chef, Opens in Oakland

We mentioned last month that a new restaurant was coming to 576 Grand Avenue in Oakland which at the time bore the name La Grande Jatte Kitchen (after the famous George Seurat painting). Well, husband-and-wife owners Dave Wasem and May Seto seem to have decided that was just a bit too French and obscure, and they’ve instead gone with Grand Lake Kitchen. As Luke Tsai reports in the East Bay Express, Wasem is a former sous chef at Park Tavern, and he and Seto decided to open the deli and grab-and-go meal spot because they themselves couldn’t find enough “fast and delicious” food options in the neighborhood. The menu includes sandwiches like one with 4505 meats cheddar bratwurst and pickled onions, and a Japanese-style open-faced egg salad sandwich; and deli-case salads like potato salad, and an escarole salad with capers and Castelvetrano olives. It’s mostly a daytime spot, open just long enough (until 7:30 p.m.) to pick up something after work, but they do have a small grocery section and beer and wine as well. [EBX, Earlier]
