We broke the news in June about 1601 Bar & Kitchen, coming to the former Sage space at 1601 Howard Street (at 12th). It’s a first solo project for chef Brian Fernando, who spent ten years at Le Papillon in San Jose and most recently worked at Plates Bar & Grill in Los Gatos. The Scoop discovers that Fernando’s planning to do some takes on Sri Lankan cuisine (his dad is Sri Lankan), including a black curry with sturgeon; a mulligatawny soup; and an egg hopper, a street food consisting of a soft-cooked egg inside a fermented crepe.
