Call us late to the party on this one, but we just noticed that 83 ½ is open. In fact, it very quietly began service a about three weeks ago. The 42-seat Upper East Side New American restaurant features a five-seat chef's counter that allows guests to watch Ryan Skeen, whom New York's Adam Platt called "the master of meathead cuisine," get to work. The menu changes regularly, we're told, so much so that its page on the restaurant's website carries the disclaimer, "Subject to change at Ryan's will." The restaurant is offering guests binchotan-filtered tap water, and while 83 ½ is dinner-only right now, brunch is on the horizon.
