Next year, CBS will air its first season of Bake Off, an American remake of the The Great British Bake Off. The show takes a simultaneously demure and extreme approach to reality-TV cooking, shipping contestants over the river and through the woods before setting them up with rolling pins and stand mixers inside a giant tent, where their pies, puddings, cupcakes, and quiches battle it out to the death. Along the way, there are visits to pastry legends like Mike Tompkins, an elderly gentleman who once made an elaborate 80th birthday cake for Winston Churchill. So, get ready for triumph and tear-flecked butter: The slightest shift in humidity has wrecked many a macaron. Hopefully, they'll have Laiskonis and Tosi on speed dial. Check out a trailer for the U.K. original after the jump.
