Marc Vetri brings some of the world’s best chefs here every year for his children’s charity, while the triple threat of Michael Solomonov, Stephen Starr, and Audrey Claire Taichman give it up for Philadelphia Live Arts and Philly Fringe. And now Jose Garces and his wife, Dr. Beatriz Garces are stepping up their own philanthropic efforts with their newly formed Garces Family Foundation. The organization, which was founded to help provide access to healthcare and education for immigrant families in and around Philadelphia, hosts its first big fundraising effort next week with the Garces Family Foundation Gala at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
The gala takes place on Wednesday, October 10, beginning at 6 p.m. for VIPs, and 7:30 p.m. for everyone else. The VIP portion, which costs $1,000, will feature a stunning assemblage of culinary talent that includes the Iron Chef himself, Marc Vetri, Kevin Sbraga, Michael Solomonov, Pierre Calmels and a host of other chefs and restaurateurs who will contribute a course for an unparalleled feast in the Kimmel’s newly opened Dorrance H. Hamilton Rooftop Garden.
The general admission portion of the gala, which runs $200 per person, kicks off under the Kimmel’s atrium 7:30 p.m. with what’s being billed as “A Taste of the Garces Group. In a festive, carnival-like setting complete with live music and flamenco dancers, chefs from Garces’ Philly restaurants will ply guests with samplings of their menus, and offer corresponding cocktails with each bite. There will also be silent auctions, and a live auction at 9 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Puentes de Salud (Bridges of Health), a non-profit organization that promotes health and wellness for the rapidly growing Latino immigrant population in South Philly through quality health care, educational programs, and community building. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased via credit card here, or with a check to care of Trinity Busch: Garces Family Foundation, 2929 Arch Street, Suite B.06, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
