Eastern Addition, the just-about-to-launch pop-up from former Poleng Lounge guys Desi Danganan and Tim Luym that we discussed last month, is having its first private kickoff BBQ event this weekend, October 6, hosted by the Bold Italic. You can get yourself a ticket to that event by becoming a Kickstarter backer of the project at the $45 level, and for $70 you can go to both that and get a free meal at one of their three fall pop-ups at Vinyl (Divisadero and Oak). The food promises to be interesting, with riffs on street food and home cooking from Japan, the Philippines, and Burma. Luym says he wants to pay homage to the “unsung heroes” of the food world, the undergound chefs, jiros, “our moms who always wanted to own a restaurant but never got to.” Following the Vinyl pop-ups, which begin October 17, the crew, along with DJ friend Jacobo Juarez, hope to do a six-month residency at the Pop-Up Hood in Oakland. And then, in a few years, they plan to reopen The Summit, somewhere. [SFoodie, Earlier]
