Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, Amrit Singh of Stereogum, and Himanshu “Heems” Suri of Das Racist exchanged a bunch of tweets about their undying fondness for the South Indian crepelike snack called dosa, which compelled the trio to form a “dosa crew,” commandeer a Sprinter van, and go off on an excursion to find the city’s best. To make dosa, rice and urad dal are pulverized and made into a batter, which is fermented overnight. The batter is crisped on a seasoned grill and served with chutney and sambar. It may sound simple, but it’s not. Dosa Hunt premiered last week at Nitehawk, and as soon as the guys can figure out what kind of food to look for next, a sequel may get underway. Hopefully we’re looking at Dosa Hunt II: The Quest for Pambazos this time next year. [Vulture, Earlier]
