Blue Bottle Moving Into the Bottled Coffee Sector

In a conversation about expansion plans following its recent $20 million double shot of funding, Blue Bottle president and CEO James Freeman tells Food Republic that more coffee shops will likely be trickling through the ornate Japanese vacuum chambers and opening in the future, but right now he’s most excited about bottling the brand’s cold-brewed New Orleans-style coffee. “We’ve figured out a way to pasteurize that without heat, so it has a shelf life and is really delicious,” he says. And while it’s still in the R&D; phase, Freeman says the bottled brew gets higher marks from testers than the coffee being prepared at the shops. [Food Republic, Earlier, Related]
