Tribune Wins Two Awards At Association of Food Journalists Awards in D.C.

Congrats to the Chicago Tribune which won two awards at the Association of Food Journalists awards for 2012. It took third place for Best Newspaper Good Coverage (200,000+ circulation), after the San Francisco Chronicle and Boston Globe, and writer Renee Enna won second place in Best Newspaper Food Feature (200,000+ circulation) for this article from June 2011 on the difficulty of making angel food cake. Though the name suggests a wider range of food journalism, the organization seems to be primarily if not overwhelmingly newspaper-oriented, with categories almost all skewed toward traditional newspaper food coverage and not the evolving media landscape (the “multimedia” award was suspended this year, as was the magazine award), but at least within the community of daily newspaper writers, the winners were an impressive bunch including the likes of Katharine Shilcutt (Houston Press) and Brett Anderson (recently laid off from the New Orleans Times-Picayune).
